On the heels of the opening of the first SABIS®-Public Private Partnership (PPP) school in Erbil, Kurdistan in September 2008, confirmation was received that a second PPP school will open its doors in Dohuk on September 3, 2009. According to the contract that was recently signed between SABIS® and the General Directorate of Education in Dohuk, the new PPP school will serve approximately 250 students from KG1 to Grade 3.

SABIS® has a long-standing involvement in the public-private partnership arena, starting in the US and then expanding to Germany and the Gulf. In the spring of 2008, SABIS® embarked upon a PPP project in Erbil, Kurdistan, where the government is seeking to revitalize public education by exposing it to the skills and resources of the private sector. The new school in Erbil brought the number of PPP schools operated by SABIS® to 32 around the world.
To pave the way for the opening of the school in Dohuk in September 2009, a number of SABIS® education professionals will train 25-30 local teachers in the implementation of the SABIS® Educational System. The training, which will commence on January 15, 2009 and extend for three years, will enable teachers to become familiar with the SABIS® system and apply SABIS®’s time-tested methods.
Once it opens, SABIS®-PPP school in Dohuk will join the promising ranks of SABIS®-PPP schools and will provide a high-quality, college-preparatory education to all students while preparing them for success in college and beyond.
